Japan Karate Association of Virginia (JKAVA)

The Japan Karate Association (JKA), headquartered in Tokyo, was founded in 1948 by Master Gichin Funakoshi, the father of today’s karate. JKA now is the world’s largest shotokan karate organization with affiliated members in almost every country throughout the world. United States is affiliated through Shotokan Karate-do International under the leadership of Master Masataka Mori.

JKAVA specializes in teaching Shotokan Karate, a traditional Japanese martial art. Our mission is to foster the growth and understanding of Shotokan Karate while nurturing the development of character in our students. Through our dedicated training, we aim to guide individuals towards realizing their highest potential within the discipline.

Karate is an inclusive practice suitable for individuals of all ages and genders, from young children to seniors. At JKAVA, we welcome anyone in reasonable health to join our Karate training programs. Through consistent practice, students not only enhance their physical health but also cultivate self-awareness, confidence, and self-esteem. Parents and educators frequently observe positive changes in the behavior of children who engage in regular training with JKAVA.

The rigorous physical training inherent in Karate promotes overall wellness and fitness. Moreover, the focus, commitment, and perseverance demanded by the discipline contribute to the development of a resilient and determined character. Scientific studies have demonstrated that Karate offers a comprehensive workout regimen encompassing aerobic, anaerobic, calisthenic, and isometric exercises, thereby promoting holistic health and well-being.

Excellent movies about one of the last true samurai of his generation. Master Masataka Mori, 9th Dan. He is a true man of Budo, humble and modest, yet a master that can positively impact and guide his students to always be better and do better!
